In preparation for infrastructure maintenance and repair, among other purposes, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) engaged the surveying of bridges on various state highways. Targus was engaged under contract to Aptim to conduct lead and asbestos surveys of well over 100 bridges over the course of the past year or more. The services focus on painted metal components and include the collection of paint chips taken from each homogeneous material. Some surveys were quickly completed on foot, while others required man lifts and other specialized equipment to reach painted surfaces at substantial heights, often after peak traffic hours. The survey reports identified each homogeneous material, its approximate quantity, and the reported asbestos content expressed as percent.
