The improvements consisted of a vacant commercial building owned by the First United Methodist Church. The church intended to demolish the building for future church expansion. The commercial building was constructed in 1976 as an office building associated with a car wash. The currently vacant commercial building was subsequently divided into two suites, referred to as the “South Suite” and the “North Suite”. A pre-demolition asbestos survey identified asbestos-containing ceiling/ wallboard and painted/ textured concrete masonry unit block in the North Suite bathroom. These materials had the potential to become friable if disturbed.
Based on the results of the survey, Targus prepared an asbestos abatement design and corresponding contract documents to govern the removal of confirmed asbestos-containing material (ACM) in advance of building demolition. Our project team conducted a pre-bid site walk with multiple contractors, provided abatement project management and monitoring services, and prepared an asbestos abatement close-out report.
